Small Town Start, Big Business Reach

FlightMedia is a digital marketing company specializing in social media. Josh Coffy, founder and director of marketing, started out freelancing his services to companies needing help with social media. His reputation grew, as did his business, and FlightMedia now provides social media training for companies large and small, around the world.

Not bad for a guy from the small town of Ashland, Oh, population less than 30,000. While they do have a few local clients, the majority of FlightMedia’s clients are based in New York, followed by Los Angeles and even Australia. The advantage of being a social media expert is that you can leverage your own talents to build your own business.

“We now have more than 100,000 people following or engaging with us on Twitter or Facebook, and it’s all been through word-of-mouth marketing,” Josh explained. “What we do really works and produces results. That’s why we have a 90% retention rate with our clients.”

Retaining clients is the holy grail of any business, and with a 90% retention rate, being able to keep track of their recurring billing and stay on top of invoicing is crucial. Therefore, FlightMedia doesn’t just offer automated payment solutions; it’s required.

“Everyone who does business with us is on an automated payment plan,” said Josh. “Everybody recurs on the first of the month, so we prorate as needed. Our clients review their invoices, then approve us to auto-debit their account.”

Working on my Business, not in my Business

The benefit of automated billing has given Josh time back in his day so he can work on growing his business and doing what he loves—sharing social media best practices and generating quality content--not being a bill collector.

“We save between 10 and 15 hours a month not having to manually invoice and follow up with people,” said Josh. “It’s also helped with our clients who travel, and has helped us manage our revenue aspect dramatically.”
