Recently, I spent the weekend with a very old friend of mine who has served as my guide and mentor for the past 20 years. This friend is one of the wisest people I have ever known. She literally lives in the middle of nowhere, almost entirely off the grid and is completely self-sufficient. If the world begins to crumble, she is definitely the person you want to have nearby.
Those of us who seek deeper self-connection and reflection in our lives do many things on our path to enhance our growth. Meditation, yoga, energy work, body work — you name the modality — all provide some level of clarity that allow us to better connect with ourselves and the world around us. However, spending time with someone who is completely connected to themselves and the world around them shows me how much I have to learn.

As I watched my friend observe the plants that grow in her garden, the animals that surround her house, and the daily weather patterns that emerge, I was amazed that she knew and understood the flow of each living thing with which she interacted. It is not from doing more, reading more, or seeking more. It is the exact opposite. It is from doing less, listening and feeling more, and looking within for all the answers and direction she needs. It spotlights for me the large gaps and huge growth opportunities I have, as I strive to be more aware and connected during this journey.
I am fortunate to have such an amazing guide in my life and to be able to see what it looks like to live in complete sync with the universal flow.
